Cotesia abjecta

General description:

The following are unpublished notes taken by Jose Fernandez-Triana after studying 1♀ (Germany), specimen determined by Nixon, and deposited in the Naturhistorisches Museum of Vienna, Austria.

Mesoscutum with relatively deep punctures, distance between punctures 0.5-0.9 x (i.e. <1.0 x) its diameter. Scutellum smoother, with shallow and sparse punctures around margins. Scutellar sulcus 0.1 x as wide as scutellum length, with 12-13 carinae, the lateral ones slightly better defined than the central ones. Scutellar lunules semicircular, about half the height of lateral face. Propodeum sculptured, with a rather irregular pattern of carination (a more or less transverse carina separates the horizontal from vertical part of propodeum, and also, some long carina that arise from nucha seem to defined the posterior part of the areolet –which otherwise not defined). Tergite 1 evenly widening from base to apex (but extreme apex has margins rounded), 1.6 x wider at apex than base, smooth in basal half (which has a central, broad, depression), apical half with large punctures, especially laterally. Tergite 2 broadly trapezoidal (almost rectangular), width at apex/width at base 1.4 x, with punctures (similar that those of T1) laterally, but a central area more or less smooth. Tergite 3 smooth and 1.3X longer than T2. Fore wing with r 1.3 x longer than stigma width. Veins r and X junction angulated. RS 1.1 x longer than stigma and 4.0 x as long as space between RS and 3RS. Stigma fully brown and most of the veins brown. Colour black, with palpi and legs yellow (except for all coxae and troachanters which are black to dark brown), tegula and wing base light brown. Metatibial spur 0.6 x the basitarsus length and 1.3 x longer than outer tibia; metafemur 3.3 x length/width.
